UTA Draper Extension - Salt Lake City, Utah
This project is the first of its kind to be awarded in the U.S. Rail Industry. It is the first Positive Train Control (PTC) system that complies with the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008. The Rail Safety Improvement Act requires all passenger and freight railroads to install PTC by 2015. The overall project scope includes design, installation, documentation, testing, integration, and commissioning of PTC technology on the 512-miles of the Metrolink commuter rail system.
MEC is installing the wayside communications equipment for the implementation of PTC on the Metrolink system. This includes new radio communication equipment, along with new radio towers and antennas at existing signalized locations. The system is scheduled to be operational at the end of 2012, three years in advance of the mandated deadline.
